Seven Extraordinary Characteristics Of English Teacher In Toronto

By Susan Gray

Reminiscing back on my school days, a particular subject always pops up. English classes. While most people were never dedicated study enthusiasts during those days, something about English teacher in Toronto always strikes out as superhuman. Something about them stands out from the rest of the teachers.

They are inspiringly fervent. Whatever topic they handle, they give it heart. They own what they sell. You could actually feel emotion coming out of their every word. They are people with opinion, always with the right words to say.

They are genuine book worms. Apart from boring scientists, English teachers were the only people who actually reading for the thrill of it. They do not just read for the sake of being seen. It is puzzling how they always found time for it. They have families to take care of and tones of marking to do during in their free time. They do it because they enjoy it. In fact, they have been known to divert an entire class just to talk about this amazing issue they read about the previous night.

They take the time to know each and every student of their class. Even the naughty exceptions that tend to sit at the back of the class and cheekily hit the ideal ones with paper for a good laugh. As a matter of fact, these kids are always in their best behaviour during English classes. Maybe this was due to the sense of genuineness these teaches possessed. They always had time for one on one sessions with their students. Taking time to understand each and every one of them with keen interest.

English teachers know the tender balance between spontaneity and structure. They can easily go off book and still get the students to the destination required. As opposed to boring, monotonous Math classes one never really knew what to expect during English classes. They do this so smoothly and everything falls in place. One can never feel lost during their lessons.

They relish at the process of molding young minds. It satisfies them to watch their students grow, to watch their prowess increase, to understand the artistic nature entangled within their stories. However much they complain that they need a new career, that they are tired, they have had it. They know deep down inside, this is what they live for. The thrill of challenging and sculpting brilliant minds in the classroom that would one day change the world.

They make you feel superman. Like nothing in this world is powerful enough to stop you. Great English teachers make you feel like you can do extraordinary things. That you can read better, think like Einstein and learn faster. They make this giant world we live in seem more like a challenge than one big scary ball of problems.

Last, but not least, yet the most intriguing, is that how uneasy they get during exams they had set. It is a common habit to find them pacing along corridors as their students take their exams. This shows just how dedicated they are and how seriously they take their jobs.
